What's New This Week

ALL THE NEW URLS we receive each week are here. We list two (sometimes three) weeks' worth, cycling the old ones off each week. As they disappear from this page, you'll find the links moved to their natural home categories in our resource pages.

If you can't find something that was once here, try the AO search engine. It searches our entire site, and it can also search all of the sites that we link to.

News Centre
If we were using Microsoft Front Page to produce Anglicans Online, it might say here (entirely by accident) Lorem Ipsum Squibum. But we use Dreamweaver, so instead we can say that Sydney churches welcome visitors and Rome warns clergy not to get too familiar with the Devil. English churches may install ATM machines; American casinos retaliate by installing clocks. Divorce as a television game show. Donate money or I'll jump. More on a recent murder in Kenya. Thieving and grieving as a credo. Another odd proclamation from the Vatican. A new 'flying bishop' for the C of E. An English commision uses the word 'homophobia' a lot. Death of a great Methodist leader. Much ado in Canada over residential schools. An advertising section devoted to the church and the internet. And, best of all, Andrew Lloyd Webber proposes to burn down the Millennium Dome and charge admission to the event. We'd buy a ticket, but not if the event were on a Sunday, because we are always busy producing Anglicans Online on Sunday evenings. Oh yes: we always end this squib by saying 'all this, and more, in the News Centre.'

News Centre
The Vatican raises some eyebrows. Most people believe their prayers are answered. One less religious columnist in the Anglican world, and one less editor. Anglican Mission in America publishes a list of supporters. Canadian churches apologize to natives. Diocese of Cariboo prepares to self-destruct. Africans dubious of politicians who go to church. Neil Follett, whose social standing did not stand up, has resigned. Britain plans to let churches also be post offices and pharmacies. Australian newspaper laments the Americanisation of the church. All this, and more, in the News Centre.

Newspapers Online
The Post and Courier (Charleston, South Carolina) has become one of the leading sources of religion reporting in the US. Their staff religion writer, Dave Munday, has done a wonderful job of covering the Episcopal church in recent times. It's long past time for us to add this newspaper to our list of recommended Newspapers Online. -- http://www.charleston.net/pub/index/news1.shtml

The British dead-tree publication Anglican World now has an Anglican World Online web site, which says 'Special features, late breaking news, extended photographic coverage and other items will be included in this Online supplement to Anglican World.' We suppose that the phrase 'late breaking' is relative, as the newest item on the site is five weeks in the past. -- http://www.anglicancommunion.org/aw/online/
