Noting Theology in Stone: Church Architecture from Byzantium to Berkeley, by Richard Kieckhefer, is reviewed in the Church Times by Julian Litten. Kieckhefer 'focuses on the theological meanings and liturgical uses of churches. Matters such as structural development are not discussed, and questions of architectural style are of secondary interest except where they bear on theological meaning'. |

Blind faith takes a back pew: The Sydney Morning Herald reports on a recent Australian study finding that 'people who carefully wrestle with their faith have a greater sense of well being than those who uncritically hold to their beliefs'. Listening to People of Other Faiths, by Claire Disbrey, is reviewed in this week's Church Times by Marcus Braybrooke. 'DIALOGUE begins when people meet each other' is the first of the four principles of dialogue suggested by the British Council of Churches in 1981. If you have not had the chance to talk in depth with people of other faiths, then listening in to Claire Disbrey's conversations is a good substitute. Scriptures in Dialogue: Christians and Muslims Studying the Bible and the Qur’an Together, by Michael Ipgrave (editor) and reviewed in this week's Church Times by Alan Race. The book represents the distilled record and interpretation of the second seminar in a dialogue series entitled 'Building Bridges', which was initiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury and hosted by the Amir of the state of Qatar. Shared by Christian and Muslim scholars from around the world, the seminar delved into the themes of 'Listening to God, learning from scripture', 'Legacies of the past, challenges of the present', and 'Scripture and the Other'. An
interview with Bishop
Gene Robinson a year after his ordination and consecration: Terry
Gross (of 'Fresh Air') interviewed Bishop Robinson last week.
The show, which includes a segment with Bishop Robert Duncan,
Diocese of Pittsburgh, aired on National Public Radio (USA) on
9 December 2004. It's available on the NPR
website in Real Audio or Windows Media Player format. |
