What's New This Week

ALL THE NEW URLS we receive each week are here. We list two (sometimes three) weeks’ worth, cycling the old ones off each week. As they disappear from this page, you'll find the links moved to their natural home categories in our resource pages.

If you can't find something that was once here, you can look in our archives or try the AO search engine. It searches our entire site and also many important official Anglican sites worldwide.

Worth Noting
Anglican Angst: Save the Last Dance for Me, a review by Timothy Larsen, in Christianity Today, of Stewart Headlam's Radical Anglicanism, by John Richard Orens. '...Nevertheless, the great rock of traditionalism seems more than most denominations to be forever anxious about what it must do to be relevant in the contemporary world. There is no more delightful way into this terrain than John Richard Orens' urbane study of that quixotic Anglican priest of the Victorian age, Stewart Headlam... The theological links bewildered lesser minds, but the Reverend Stewart Headlam could see quite clearly how devotion to the Virgin Mary must lead on to votes for women, how a logical implication of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist was socialism, and how it was a denial of the doctrine of the incarnation to prohibit dancing girls from wearing flesh-colored tights. One can sense the desperation that the church not get left behind in a changing world'.

The First Christian Theologians: An Introduction to Theology in the Early Church, edited by G. R. Evans, is reviewed in the Church Times by Thomas Graumann. 'While most essays focus on individual thinkers, or closely related groups such as the Cappadocian Fathers (well presented by M. Ludlow), others follow thematic lines, or introduce specific areas of ecclesial writing'.

Theology by Heart: Women, the Church and God, by Ellen Clark-King is reviewed in the Church Times by Kenneth Leech. 'Aware that she, a middle-class feminist with an academic background, was, for the first time, living on an estate consisting almost entirely of white working-class Geordies, she undertook a process of serious listening to her neighbours, and particularly to the women, to see what she, feminists, and the wider Church could learn from them'.
