Noting The Choice is Yours — Unfortunately, by David Walker, is an article in the Church Times. 'The deification of choice ignores the impact that my choices have on the options available to others.' The Church and Mary, by R. N. Swanson, and 'A Gothic Sermon: Making a contract with the Mother of God, Saint Mary of Amiens', by Stephen Murray, are reviewed in The Church Times by Martin Warner. The Church and Mary 'is welcome because of the serious attention it pays to the often neglected place of Mary throughout the Christian tradition' ... 'Stephen Murray introduces us to an annotated and illustrated edition of a 13th-century sermon in which the energy of communication bubbles over with enthusiasm for fresh expressions of the veneration of motherhood — of Mary, of the Church, and of the Mother Church of the diocese of Amiens ... The text indicates that clergy haven’t changed, though the good news is that sermons are now generally a great deal shorter'. Episcopal Church Network for Science, Technology, and Faith: 'Facilitates dialogue between [ECUSA] and members of the scientific, technical, and medical communities; to be an educational resource for this Church, its seminaries, and the wider Christian community; and to provide guidelines in Christian ethics for use in everyday decisions within contemporary American culture'. In The Kingdom of God is Now or Never Timothy Radcliffe writes about the stories we have to tell, the future, the killing fields of the last century, the Last Supper, and 'a wonderful moment for Christianity'. In The Tablet. Newseum: The Interactive Museum of News: Outstanding collection of front pages from newspapers from around the world. View the entire front page, download it as a PDF, or go to the paper's website. Wonderfully useful for events with worldwide impact. Quantum Leap: An article by Keith Ward in The Tablet. 'Modern science enables us to see the Resurrection not as contrary to reason, but as an intelligible possibility in the ‘multiverse’, where lives take many forms'. The Soul of the Embryo: An Enquiry into the Status of the Human Embryo in the Christian Tradition, by David Albert Jones, is reviewed in the Church Times by Robin Gill. Jones defends 'the position that the embryo has an immortal soul from the point of conception onwards... But I suspect that it will finally convince only those already persuaded of the pro-life position.' White Lies: Canon Collins and the Secret War Against Apartheid, by Denis Herbstein, is reviewed in the Church Times by Ronald Blythe. |

Noting The Battle Rages On: Deborah Caldwell, writing for Beliefnet, interviews Frank Griswold, primate of the US Episcopal Church. A Brief History of Saints, by Lawrence S. Cunningham, is reviewed in the Church Times. 'He [Lawrence S. Cunningham] makes no apology for writing from within the heart of the Roman Catholic tradition, while acknowledging that Orthodoxy and Anglicanism both make saints. He offers his book as a “gift”, in order to explain why and how saints have been created.' In the End — The Beginning, by Jürgen Moltmann, is reviewed in the Church Times by Alec Graham. 'This little book deserves attentive reading from both the general reader and the scholar, as well as providing a useful way into the thinking of Jürgen Moltmann for those who are unfamiliar with it.' Primates call for breathing space: an interview with Andrew Hutchison, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, published by the national newspaper of that church. Wrestling for Blessing, by Marilyn McCord Adams, is reviewed in the Church Times by Eric James. 'It is one of the most surprising and challenging religious books I have read in my more than 50 years of ordained ministry.' |
