Mission Under Scrutiny, by J. Andrew Kirk, is reviewed by Michael Doe. 'He repeatedly assaults the contemporary idea that all individuals have the right to construct their own world... Despairing of those, including many in the Churches, who assume that the only worthwhile goals are Western-style democracy, consumerism, and an ultra-liberal faith, he turns to the growing, joyous, and prophetic Churches in the South.'

'Saddam's Secrets: How an Iraqi General Defied and Survived Saddam Hussein, by Georges H. Sada with Jim Nelson Black, is reviewed by Joe Jenkins. 'Arguably the single most extraordinary feat of survival is that achieved by a plain-speaking Christian general who served in Saddam Hussein’s air force... He attempts to convince a now sceptical world that Saddam had a well-defined, if chaotic, intention to develop nuclear weapons and hold the world to ransom.'

Church History
A Word in Season, Touching the Present Misunderstanding in the Episcopal Church, by A Layman (1811). This misunderstanding du jour was about differences of opinion betwen a priest named Cave Jones (1769-1829) and a bishop named John Henry Hobart (1775-1830).

They That Sat in Darkness: An Account of Rescue Work in Japan in the Words of the Rev. Yoshimichi Sugiura (1912). Japanese Anglican priest Yoshimichi Sugiura recounts his pioneering social work in this brief book with photographs.
