Noted This Week

WHENEVER WE LEARN about a web site that we haven't previously listed, we'll note it here. Sometimes such sites are brand new and sometimes they have been around for a while without our having noticed. We list two (sometimes three) weeks’ worth, cycling the old ones off each week. As they disappear from this page, you'll find the links moved to their natural home categories in our resource pages. We normally do not mention on this page redesigns or remakes of sites that are already in our listings.

If you can't find something that was once here, you can look in our archives or try the AO search engine. It searches our entire site and also many important official Anglican sites worldwide. If you still can't find it, please let us know.

If you would like your website listed at Anglicans Online, please use this form to tell us about it.

Book Reviews
The English Chorister: A History, by Alan Mould, is reviewed by Edward Wickham in the Church Times.
[Ed. An absolutely charming review to read, whether you end up reading the book or not.]

Shakespeare’s Hybrid Faith: History, Religion and the Stage, by Jean-Christophe Mayer, is reviewed by Gillian Woods in the Church Times. 'He contends that “religion, for Shakespeare, was not so much a matter of systematic allegiance as one of constant debating and questioning.” Not Shakespeare the closet Catholic then, nor Shakespeare the pious Protestant, but rather Shakespeare the man of his theological age, invigorated and troubled by a range of religious attitudes.'

Theology Goes to the Movies: An Introduction to Critical Christian Thinking, by Clive Marsh, is reviewed with Religion and Film: An introduction, by Melanie J. Wright reviewed, by Hugh Rayment-Pickard, also in the Church Times. 'Clive Marsh’s clearly written and accessible book .. uses particular films as the basis for theological reflection [while] Wright offers a general theory of the relationship between cinema and religion. [Both are] well-written but very different books that will no doubt have a wide appeal, but to different audiences.'

This small collection of sermons and addresses commemorates Thomas Gallaudet (1822-1902), listed on the US Episcopal Church's calendar of lesser feasts and fasts for his pioneering work in deaf education and worship. An Invitation to Prayer.
'Lord teach us how to pray.' That request was put to Jesus by his own disciples - which should encourage us if we feel we don't know how to pray. They needed help, and so do we, especially at troubled times such as these. But there isn't just one right way to pray - what works well for one person may not for another.'
