Noted This Week

WHENEVER WE LEARN about a web site that we haven't previously listed, we note it here. Sometimes such sites are brand new and sometimes they have been around for a while without our having noticed. We list two weeks' worth, cycling the old ones off each week. As they disappear from this page, you'll find the links moved to their natural home categories in our resource pages. We do not mention on this page remakes of sites that are already in our listings.

If you can't find something that was once here, you can look in our archives or try the AO search engine. It searches our entire site. If you still can't find it, please let us know.

If you would like your website listed at Anglicans Online, please use this form to tell us about it.

Worth Noting
Crowning glory or clowning folly: Steve Parish writes for the Guardian (London) on a proposed £10m corona for Westminster Abbey.

Look, no hands: Christopher Howse writes for the Telegraph (London) on church clocks. His enthusiasm was inspired by Hugh Rock's new book with the likely title of Church Clocks.

TV and parables of our time: 'Diane Winston appreciates good television, studies it, and brings many of its creators into her religion and media classes at the University of Southern California. In what some have called a renaissance in television drama, we examine how TV is helping us tell our story and work through great confusions in contemporary life.' A fine recent episode from American Public Media's Speaking of Faith programme.

C of E: reach out to the bald and bulging. Zimbabwe government blocks consecration of bishop. Mombasa clerics clash over Kadhi courts. Untouched by sub-human hands? More aftermath of the US General Convention. English bishops hold their nerve. C of E General Synod reports now available. No one expects the Spanish inquisition. Archbishops recommend against sharing chalice. A matter of loaf and death. Where the bishop gets the stink. All this, and more, in the News Centre.

Igreja Anglicana Reformada: 'The Reformed Anglican Church is a missionary district born with the desire to reach the millions of Brazilian who don't know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Also, we began our missionary work as a response to the crisis of faith and leadership in Brazilian Church. The district's mission is concentrated in church-planting, discipleship and training new leaders for the 21st Century.'

Worth Noting
Guidance on communion during swine flu pandemic
: 'The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to Bishops in the Church of England recommending the suspension of the sharing of the chalice at communion. The Archbishops' letter follows advice from the Department of Health not to share "common vessels" for food or drink.'

The Real Decline of Churches: Diana Butler Bass writes for Beliefnet. 'For decades now, the conventional wisdom about church growth has been that only conservative churches—those that take the Bible literally and embrace conservative politics—could grow. But it appears that conventional wisdom is being seriously questioned.'
