Worth Noting
Lost Causes: Betty
Smart Carter writes for Books and Culture (Chicago) on Penelope Fitzgerald. 'It's the
fate of some individuals to act out the history of an era on a small stage, and the fate of their
children to see life as a record of vanished joys and melancholy partings—but to be glad
for it, all the same.'
