Noted This Week

WHENEVER WE LEARN about a web site that we haven't previously listed, we note it here. Sometimes such sites are brand new and sometimes they have been around for a while without our having noticed. We list two weeks' worth, cycling the old ones off each week. As they disappear from this page, you'll find the links moved to their natural home categories in our resource pages. We do not mention on this page remakes of sites that are already in our listings.

If you can't find something that was once here, you can look in our archives or try the AO search engine. It searches our entire site. If you still can't find it, please let us know.

If you would like your website listed at Anglicans Online, please use this form to tell us about it.

World
Schools and Education
India: St Paul's School, Darjeeling. 'Located 7500 feet above sea level and acclaimed as the highest public school in the world, the origin and early history of this well known institution, the second oldest in Bengal, dates as far back as the year 1823 when John William Ricketts, a prominent Anglo-Indian leader, conceived the idea of founding a public school to meet the needs of the growing Anglo-Indian population in Calcutta.'

Worth Noting
Hot cross buns: Jean Fitzpatrick writes for the Daily Episcopalian. 'They inhabit that ambiguous cultural realm of grassroots customs and practices that connect us to who we are and where we've come from. In their annual reappearance the buns tie us to the procession of ordinary mortals who came before us, and to everyone else who seeks them out.'

Two great commandments: Geoffrey Rowell writes for the Times (London). 'In the end "I am" can only be known in relationship and the fundamental relationship is with God. That is why the two great commandments that Jesus gave us are the love of God with all our heart and mind and soul and strength, and the love of our neighbour as ourselves.'

Worth Noting
Made for Goodness: Desmond Tutu speaks on [American] National Public Radio about a new book co-authored with his daughter. 'How do I see the world and my role in it? What are the spiritual practices that uphold me? What do I see in the heart of humanity and in the sweep of history that confirms my conviction that goodness will triumph? This book is my answer.'

The Finality of Christ in a Pluralist World: 'So, 'uniqueness' and 'finality': we believe as Christians that because of Jesus Christ a new phase in human history – not just the history of the Middle East or of Europe – has opened. There is now a community representing on earth the new creation, a restored humanity. There is now on earth a community which proclaims God's will for universal reconciliation and God's presence in and among us leading us towards full humanity.' The Archbishop of Canterbury lectures in the Diocese of Guildford.
