Noted This Week

WHENEVER WE LEARN about a web site that we haven't previously listed, we note it here. Sometimes such sites are brand new and sometimes they have been around for a while without our having noticed. We list two weeks' worth, cycling the old ones off each week. As they disappear from this page, you'll find the links moved to their natural home categories in our resource pages. We do not mention on this page remakes of sites that are already in our listings.

If you can't find something that was once here, you can look in our archives or try the AO search engine. It searches our entire site. If you still can't find it, please let us know.

If you would like your website listed at Anglicans Online, please use this form to tell us about it.

Worth Noting
A hopeful letter: 'This letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury was drafted by Bishops Mary Gray-Reeves of the Diocese of El Camino Real, Gerard Mpango of the Diocese of Western Tanganyika, and Michael Perham of the Diocese of Gloucester.' If you share one Anglican online thing this week with a friend, make it this.

Rethinking the sex crises: Sarah Coakley lectures at the United Theological College, Sydney, Australia on 13 July 2010. It's been a while since we've had a chance to rethink the sex crises, and Professor Coakley is a helpful guide.

Sharing Global Voices: Ethan Zuckerman's inspiring TED (Technology Entertainment and Design) talk from July 2010 is available for watching or reading the transcript. His talk is described as follows: 'Sure, the web connects the globe, but most of us end up hearing mainly from people just like ourselves. Blogger and technologist Ethan Zuckerman wants to help share the stories of the whole wide world. He talks about clever strategies to open up your Twitter world and read the news in languages you don't even know.'

Worth Noting
What is the Standing Committee?: 'What powers does it have? When does it meet? Who are the current members? How are they elected? I have heard it said that some churches get more votes than others. Why is that? What kinds of things are regularly on the agenda of the Standing Committee? How does the Anglican Communion Office staff relate to the Committee? Who has the power to appoint any replacements? What will the Standing Committee be doing this week?' Who knew? From the Anglican Communion Office's website.

Why I won't pay for St Paul's: Theo Hobson writes for guardian.co.uk on entrance fees and churches. 'My reluctance to pay is not really a matter of meanness, but of principle. By excluding people, especially young people who are often time-rich but money-poor, and spiritually curious, the C of E is edging them away from a sense that England's religious heritage is theirs – that it is not just for tourists, and not just for worshippers at actual services; it is also theirs to browse.'
