Fordham University, Lowenstein Center. Jane Dawson of the University of Edinburgh delivers the Robert Southwell Lecture. 'Singing played a vital role in the lives of people who could not read by helping them to memorize words. Congregational singing changed the lives of laymen and laywomen as they sang psalms in church and home, at work or on the battlefield.'
