Letters to AO

EVERY WEEK WE PUBLISH a selection of letters we receive in response to something you've read at Anglicans Online. Stop by and have a look at what other AO readers are thinking.

Alas, we cannot publish every letter we receive. And we won't publish letters that are anonymous, hateful, illiterate, or otherwise in our judgment do not benefit the readers of Anglicans Online. We usually do not publish letters written in response to other letters. We edit letters to conform with standard AO house style for punctuation, but we do not change, for example, American spelling to conform to Canadian orthography. On occasion we'll gently edit letters that are too verbose in their original form. Email addresses are included when the authors give permission to do so.

If you'd like to respond to a letter whose author does not list an email, you can send your response to Anglicans Online and we'll forward it to the writer.

Letters from 1 to 7 August 2011

Like all letters to the editor everywhere, these letters express the opinions of the writers and not Anglicans Online. We publish letters that we think will be of interest to our readers, whether we agree with them or not. If you'd like to write a letter of your own, click here.

For the Blessing of Internet-Related Equipment & Communities, Rite 1.0 (font Book Antiqua)

V. Open Thou mine eyes.
R. That I may see the wondrous things of Thy Law.

SPECIAL COLLECTS
Grant, O Lord, that by Thy Holy Word, which shall be read and heard, written and spoken in this place, and by Thy Holy Spirit grafting it inwardly in the heart, both the senders and receivers thereof may perceive and know what things they ought to do and say, and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfill the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

(For a Computer, IPhone or Network)
O Almighty God, who dost enlighten the minds of Thy servants with the knowledge of Thy truth; give, we beseech Thee, to those who shall use this [computer/IPhone/network] the spirit of wisdom and understanding, of counsel and might, that they may follow those things which belong unto eternal life: and grant that Thy people may so take heed to Thy Word, which draws them after Thee, that they may at length attain unto Him who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

(For an Online Community, such as SecondLife or Anglicans Online)
Grant, O Lord, that all who in this place shall live the Scriptures which Thou hast given us may be filled with the faith of the Gospel, and with thankfulness to Thee who dost reveal Thyself to men by the Word of Life. And grant that all who work, play, visit or observe here in [SecondLife/AnglicansOnline] may receive that Word into honest and good hearts, and may bring forth fruit with patience; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Send forth, O Lord, we pray Thee, Thy light into our hearts, that we may perceive the light of Thy commandments, and, walking in Thy way, may fall into no error; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for the Second Sunday in Advent
Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast, the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Amen.

Sanity? On Airplanes?

I didn't realize there was a service or blessing or anything remotely relevant for Airplanes. Here I've been adapting an outdated one on Travel At Sea on evenings before I go home. No wonder I've had such miserable luck with the airport this year. I wonder if someone's thought of a service for preserving one's sanity while battling with automated voices over the telephone in order to make the telephone work in another country? Perhaps I'm asking to much.
