Letters to AO

EVERY WEEK WE PUBLISH a selection of letters we receive in response to something you've read at Anglicans Online. Stop by and have a look at what other AO readers are thinking.

Alas, we cannot publish every letter we receive. And we won't publish letters that are anonymous, hateful, illiterate, or otherwise in our judgment do not benefit the readers of Anglicans Online. We usually do not publish letters written in response to other letters. We edit letters to conform with standard AO house style for punctuation, but we do not change, for example, American spelling to conform to Canadian orthography. On occasion we'll gently edit letters that are too verbose in their original form. Email addresses are included when the authors give permission to do so.

If you'd like to respond to a letter whose author does not list an email, you can send your response to Anglicans Online and we'll forward it to the writer.

Letters from the week of 30 June to 6 July 2014

Like all letters to the editor everywhere, these letters express the opinions of the writers and not Anglicans Online. We publish letters that we think will be of interest to our readers, whether we agree with them or not. If you'd like to write a letter of your own, click here.

There are often comments about our front-page letters on the Anglicans Online Facebook page. You might like to have a look.

Warham Guild stole photos?

My little business, Church Linens and Fabrics, offers vestment patterns. A long time ago, I had a Warham Guild stole and, realizing the historical value, I took a pattern from that stole. I gifted the stole to a favorite priest and don't have it any more. Over the years, that pattern got lost in my workroom. I've just found it again and will offer the pattern through my website.

However! While I took a pattern of the shape of the stole, I did not take a picture of the orphrey/galloon arrangement! Which are important - if not crucial!

I need pictures of the lovely slim Warham Guild stoles with the spade-shaped ends.

Can you help me?

About parish newsletters

(In response to our front page of 25 May 2014)

The most important thing in a parish publication I want to have and easily findable are location (not P.O. Box), phone numbers, contacts, and website. If the parish is in transition, that should be easy to figure out, with both lay leaders and any clergy other than the latest one-Sunday only supply should be indicated. If the parish is in permanent transition, one should be able to figure that out too.

Pictures are good and should have names on them. In 20 years we won't remember who is who. Service times should be in the publication. Alternate times for Christmas, Easter, and summer should also be listed, even if these are 2 months away. The parish website should be listed for details.

Reference to music is nice. Events at the parish whether on-going (i.e. Sunday forum) or upcoming should be listed in the magazine. If you have a big thing going on like EFM or a recurring Dreams group, it would be nice to have interim paragraphs on these.
