Reading this in the current letter, "The now archaic term 'earthdin' which has a similar meaning, dates to 1060," reminds me of the Haitian Kreyol term invented for the 2010 earthquake in that country, "goudougoudou." This is an approximation of the sloshing sound the earth made during those terrible few seconds.
