Hallo again to all.
Some of you may recall hearing or viewing the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II forty-five
years ago this month. You can hear the service again (or for the first time) on the
Internet by tuning into Stanford
University's radio station KZSU through Real Audio
this Thursday, 18 June, at 1am GMT (6pm PDT). They'll be rebroadcasting the entire
three hours. Whilst you listen, at another site you can follow the Order of Service as well.
Now to a slightly earlier monarch: Cambridge University Library has put on the web
a splendid
13th-century illuminated manuscript of the Life of Edward the Confessor. The zoom feature on the site allows you to see fine details of the illumination
and is most impressive.
Jumping across the Atlantic, the Library of Congress has a nicely done web site of
its summer exhibit 'Religion and the Founding of the American Republic'; although the exhibit itself in Washington DC ends in August the web pages
are to remain up indefinitely. Leaving the North American continent and heading south,
also well done is the web site for the Catedral da Santíssima Trindade
in the Diocese of Recife, Brazil.
As usual, our News Centre brings you the most recent Anglican stories we can find. And speaking of
finds, we hope you, our readers (erudite and far-flung group that you are) may be
able to assist us. Here's the situation: Many of you will recall references to the
Kuala
Lumpur Statement, a document produced there in early
1997 during a meeting there of some 80 delegates, primarily bishops and archbishops
from the southern hemisphere. We have repeatedly tried to see -- to date in vain
-- a roster of the signers of this statement. Many later documents refer to it --
the Dallas
Statement and the 'First Promise' text, amongst others --
and these later documents are signed. But the Kuala Lumpur signers remain
unknown to us. If you are able to turn up a definitive list of the people who signed
the original KL statement in February 1997, we should be most grateful. Email us if you can help.
I have a enquiry from a person taking on responsibility for chapel services at an
Episcopal school in the USA. She'd like ideas for involving children musically, from
others who have worked in this area. Email Debbie Schram directly if you have suggestions.
See you next Sunday.
