Letters to AO

EVERY WEEK WE PUBLISH a selection of letters we receive in response to something you've read at Anglicans Online. Stop by and have a look at what other AO readers are thinking.

Alas, we cannot publish every letter we receive. And we won't publish letters that are anonymous, hateful, illiterate, or otherwise in our judgment do not benefit the readers of Anglicans Online. We usually do not publish letters written in response to other letters.

We edit letters to conform with standard AO house style for punctuation, but we do not change, for example, American spelling to conform to English orthography. On occasion we'll gently edit letters that are too verbose in their original form. Email addresses are included when the authors give permission to do so.

If you'd like to respond to a letter whose author does not list an email, you can send your response to Anglicans Online and we'll forward it to the writer.

Letters from 19 June to 26 June 2005

Like all letters to the editor everywhere, these letters are the opinions of the writers and not Anglicans Online. We publish letters that we think will be of interest to our readers, whether we agree with them or not. If you'd like to write a letter of your own, click here.

Nothing new under the sun

Interesting that I should return from a trip to London yesterday and find, in the "Everything new is here" section, a listing for a nice parish church that the wife and I stopped at for a short and restful visit, St Pancras Parish Church, located about mid-point on a walk between the British Museum and British Library.

Reading your cover story of 19 June concerning Holy Trinity Church, Stanley Mission, I couldn't help but make a couple of comparisons. Both churches, St. Pancras & Holy Trinity, are in locations that are almost the complete opposite to each other. One, a relatively isolated location in the Great Shield of Canada; the other, a location in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Bloomsbury section of London.

However, it would seem that both have a common denominator—the peace of spirit and mind that one can find within their respective doors. Both are sanctuaries in their own right.

Flying British Airways non-stop back to San Francisco from London via the Great Circle route that crosses much of the northern Canadian Shield, I thought of peaceful locations such as Holy Trinity and St Pancras Churches.

As always, thank you for Anglicans OnLine.
