Letters
from 4 to 10 September 2006
Like
all letters to the editor everywhere, these letters are
the opinions of the writers and not Anglicans Online.
We publish letters that we think will be of interest
to our readers, whether we agree with them or not. If

Don't call
me a hatemonger
I
am writing in reaction to an editorial response you made
to Derek Dunwoody's letter about the Archbishop of Canterbury.
I was shocked by your use of the word "hatemongers" to
refer to those who might have found deep interest in
the Archbishop's seeming change, or maybe growth, related
to gay and lesbian person's and same-sex blessings. As
this issue has become much discussed within my own home
Diocese of Arkansas (USA), following the recent approval
of our bishop to allow such blessings, and as we go from
the abstract to what is now a reality, I am finding myself
more and more on the side of Scripture, Tradition, and
Reason. I don't think this makes me a conservative, nor
does it make me a "Hatemonger." Your words of name-calling,
against fellow members of the Body of Christ, however,
may characterize you more than you would wish...

(Ed: you didn't read carefully enough. We didn't say
that those talking about +Cantuar's interview were hatemongers, we
said that hatemongers were talking about +Cantuar's interview. Surely
in school you learned about faulty syllogisms. All horses are quadrupeds,
but not all quadrupeds are horses. We, too, are devoted to Scripture,
Tradition, and Reason, and we find that Reason is often the first to
be tossed out.)
My faith
cares for my heart
EDITED
Anglicanism
provides not only Anglicans but all humans with knowledge
about how to live a godly life and how to create a godly
environment.
Our
roots here in Tonga are from neither Roman Catholicsm
or from the Established Church in England, but our
hearts can feel the warmth and care of the Church's teachings
through silence, prayers, deditation, and receiving the
Body of Christ as 'cleaning equipment' for our souls. This
gives us the opportunity to be gentle and beautiful in
and to our environment and our earth.
God
knows how much I love my Church; my faith cares
for my heart and the church cares for my family's ralationship
with Christ.
